Useful Tips

  • Make sure that you get your chimney swept annually. One or two times a year is advised, depending on how much the appliance is used.
  • All gas fires should be serviced annually for safety; as this could invalidate your warranty.
  • If you are having issues with your gas fire (with batteries included), always check the batteries and replace them before contacting an engineer or Westcombes.
  • We recommend burning well-seasoned or kiln dried wood, this gives up to twice the heat output of freshly felled timber and helps reduce the tar build up in the flue. Check that the wood is less than 20% moisture inside the log when split (purchasing a moisture meter might be useful).
  • Do not overload your stove, as this can cause overfiring, resulting in the fire being too intense and damage the appliance. Generally, one-two logs is sufficient.
